November 2007

Greetings!

In November ragged trees and the threat of snow demands elbow grease. Time to rake leaves, plant for the spring and plan for both the holidays and the winter months.

We are at the same point in our performance management cycle. The time for disciplined work.

In October we talked about summoning the courage to deal with performance gaps. This month the focus is on the follow up. The aftermath of those difficult conversations and decisions.

Now is the time to follow up to make sure that commitments were met, goals were achieved and promises were kept.

If you don’t follow up, all the work you put into training, preparing, coaching and creating action plans may be lost. Remember, the point of this process is to ensure that performance is on track. Hopefully you will even have something to celebrate!

In the character model we talk about discipline as the engine that helps you clarify your intention, manage thoughts and feelings in order to behave in alignment with your goals. Without the discipline to plan, act and follow up everything becomes a philosophical notion.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
